August 9th - National Book Lovers Day
This day is a great time to introduce a literature based stem activity to your class! Our guide has a number of STEM books that you can use as a starting point to introduce another activity to get your year started off strong.
August 19th - National Aviation Day
Up, up, and away! Help your class soar to new heights with an aviation-themed activity. One great idea is to have your young aviators design and construct paper airplanes. They can experiment with different designs, wing shapes, and sizes, and then test their airplanes to see which one flies the farthest or stays aloft the longest. You can even turn it into a friendly competition to help gamify your classroom.
Materials:
- Construction paper
- Colored pencils or markers
Instructions:
- Have your students decorate their piece of paper
- Have your students follow instructions to fold their airplane
August 24th - National Pluto isn’t a Planet Day
Don’t worry Pluto, we still love you! This day is a great opportunity to teach your students about the planets and their former partner Pluto.
Materials:
- Construction paper
- Colored pencils or markers
Instructions:
- Explain to your students the difference between Pluto and the rest of the planets in the solar system.
- Then pass out craft supplies for students to design their own dwarf planet.
- After students are done, volunteers tell the class about their planet.
August 26th - National Dog Day
Celebrate National Dog Day by helping your students understand how to play and care for their furry friends…while also learning about coding! In Kodable, students can play with Pets while also programming Carebots to care for them. Your class can participate in this activity today here or you can create a free Kodable account to have your students explore all the fun and learning opportunities Kodable has to offer.
