Our 2024 Content Update Is Here

Our 2024 content update is live! We’ve updated the Galaxy Map in Kodable Basics to provide more skill-appropriate learning opportunities for elementary students of all ages! This latest update to our award-winning Kodable Basics app introduces new levels and a variety of new types of levels to give students the ability to learn fundamental computer science concepts, hone their coding skills, and put their new skills to the test all while receiving new rewards to celebrate their hard work.

Twice as many coding lessons as before

The new Kodable Basics Galaxy Map features twice as many self-paced coding lessons as before. This includes more sequence coding levels to help pre-readers and younger students have more age-appropriate content to prepare them for more challenging coding concepts later on in Kodable.

This update also features Free Play levels - a new area within each Kodable world that offers students more practice levels on the coding concept of that planet. After learning a new concept, students can enter Free Play to practice their new skill with unlimited AI-generated levels!

Two times as many levels give you even more reasons to get your students coding in Kodable this year! If you haven’t tried Kodable before you can sign up for your free teacher account today.

Adaptive practice mode that meets every learner at their level

Free Play mode in Kodable Basics provides unlimited AI-generated levels for students. These levels can help students in two different ways! First, students who need additional practice before completing a coding challenge can enter Free Play for more levels to work on a particular coding concept. After completing five levels in Free Play, they'll be able to jump back into the coding challenge they were working on.

If students don't need additional help completing their coding challenge, Free Play will automatically unlock after the challenge levels for students to play unlimited levels to continue honing their coding skills. All levels students play in Free Play are set to be the appropriate skill-level for students based on where they are in Kodable Basics.

Assessments to help put learning in action

Kodable Basics planets now feature a streamlined progression to help students of all ages learn, understand, and apply coding concepts. First, students will go through a tutorial to learn concepts such as sequences, debugging, conditionals, loops, variables, and functions. Then students will go through a series of levels where they will apply what the concept they just learned to collect stars with their fuzz character!

These challenge levels have special stars for students can collect and may even have 5 starts instead of the usual three for students to pick up along the way.

Then, students will be assessed on their understanding of this coding concept with a special series of levels with extra stars to collect and without the use of fuzzBuzz’s helpful hints. If students need additional practice to complete the assessment, they can jump into Free Play mode to practice this coding concept with more levels. Once a student completes a series of Free Play levels, they can try to take the assessment again, armed with more experience!

These new updates are all designed to provide more structure and skill-appropriate content to help your students start, continue, and excel in their programming journey.
