There are three different ways to set up for your playtesting session. Find all the details below for a smooth setup process.
Start by gently placing the tablet flat on a table, right at the bottom edge of the laptop. Now, tilt the laptop screen downward to create the perfect alignment between the camera and the tablet. This step ensures that we capture all the action smoothly.
No laptop? No problem! Use a phone for capturing video instead. Position the tablet on the table and get the phone ready to capture the action. Make sure to point the phone's camera towards the tablet.
When your child is using the laptop for both playing and participating in the Zoom call, simply click on the green "Share Screen" button in Zoom to display their activity on the call.
Am I allowed to watch the playtesting session alongside my child?
While we encourage parents to be nearby in case of technical issues, we typically prefer the child to engage with the Kodable app unassisted to observe their independent interaction with the game.
Is there a specific location I should choose for the setup?
We recommend selecting a quiet, well-lit area within your home for the observation setup. Ensure that your computer has access to a stable Wi-Fi connection.
How can I join the scheduled Zoom meeting for the session?
Open the Zoom application on your computer or phone. Use the provided meeting link to join the scheduled session.
How do I start sharing my screen while in the Zoom meeting?
Within the Zoom meeting interface, locate and click on the "Share Screen" button to begin sharing your screen. Choose the appropriate screen-sharing option and select the web browser where the Kodable app is open. This will allow participants to see the app's content on your shared screen.
What's the recommended way to handle communication with my child during the session?
Encourage your child to interact naturally with the Kodable app. The researcher will provide instructions and engage with your child through Zoom's audio and video features.
What should I do if I encounter technical problems during the session?
If technical issues such as lagging or unclear visuals occur, briefly pause the session to address them. You can make adjustments to screen sharing settings or troubleshoot technical problems as needed.
How do I properly end the session?
Once the session is complete, stop sharing your screen and conclude the Zoom meeting. Your child can safely close the Kodable app on their computer.
Will you be capturing videos or photos of the playtesting session?
No video or photos will be captured without permission. The playtesting session is conducted in real-time to observe your child's initial reactions to the game, gain insights into their learning experiences, and understand their preferences and dislikes about the game.
How do I share my thoughts and observations about the playtesting session?
After the playtesting session, you may be invited to provide feedback through a survey or discussion. Your insights, suggestions, and feedback are highly valuable in helping us improve the Kodable app.
